Fencing Institute of Texas offers several opportunities for children enrolled in home school programs to participate in athletics. Equipment is provided for students for the first few months; after this, students should begin purchasing their own equipment. When the time comes for you to purchase equipment, you may do so through the FIT Armorer at a significant discount. Our school, our students, and our instructors promote the values of self-discipline, self-respect, respect for authority, and good sportsmanship. Fencing is the last bastion of true sportsmanship where each bout, whether in a tournament or in practice, begins and ends with a salute to your opponent and a salute to the referee; and every bout must end with a handshake and salute. Fencing offers a unique forum for a student to compete as an individual while participating in a team environment. Many students are intimidated by others with greater athletic prowess and therefore don't participate in basketball, baseball, and other team sports. However, fencing requires as much mental skill as it does athleticism. It is also a wonderful sport for wheelchair athletes and others with problems such as asthma who can not participate in outdoor sports. Our facility is ADA compliant for wheelchair students. |
